Story of the pencil maker
Long, long ago, there was this pencil marker who makes the best and beautiful pencils in the world. One day, he made a set of pencils which were the best he ever made. Before he pack the pencils and send them out for sale, he told the pencil;
You are the best pencils that I have ever made, but you must remember 5 values that are very important.
First Value; you must let people hold onto you. Without anyone holding onto you, you will not be able to accomplish anything.
Second Value; No matter what surface you write on, you will always leave a mark. So you must always think before you act.
Third Value; you must be able to withstand the pain that there will be people who try to sharpen you. But this will only let you become sharper and better.
Fourth Value; No matter how pretty, how beautiful or tall/short/fat/thin you are, what matters most is the inner lead.
Fifth Value; whenever you make a mistake, you can always use the eraser on your head to erase the mistake. But will it leave a mark? It will always leave a mark even if you rub away.
SME juniors are you reading these stories? I do hope you did. =)

There was this young girl who thinks that she is lousy in all things she does, therefore she has very low confidence level and refuse to accept challenge.
So one day, the father asked her to look at 3 pots containing boiling water and the father placed carrots in the first pot, an egg in the second pot and coffee beans in the third pot. She stared and stared at the pots containing the items but she never understands why. So she got so impatient of waiting and asks the father; "what is it that you want me to look at."
So the father explained;
Before the carrots were put in the boiling water, the carrots were very hard. Carrots said, “We are very strong, we can withstand whatever adversity that may come.” But after they were thrown into the boiling water, the carrots became soft. “Oh I’m so weak I cannot withstand the challenge”
The second pot was the egg. Before the egg went into the boiling water, “Oh I’m very weak I cannot withstand such challenge.” But after going into the boiling water, the egg became stronger instead.
The third pot was the coffee bean. The coffee beans did not have any fear and even after being challenged by the hot boiling water, the coffee beans did not change. Instead they changed the color of the water.
So which of the three items do you want to be?
A person with strong front but weakens after meeting adversity?
A person who thinks he/she is very weak, refuse to accept challenges yet after being thrown into adversity, you become stronger?
Or a person who faces challenges with no fear, refusing to give up and changes the challenge into something that favors you?
